Sportsbook mini reviews: how each site earned its spot

The table gives you the headline numbers — these reviews explain the trade-offs behind them. Every book below accepts Canadian players and takes Interac; licences are offshore unless stated otherwise, which means bigger bonuses but no provincial recourse. Bonus figures are from our verified affiliate feed; always confirm the live offer in the operator's cashier before depositing.

Tenobet – The Best Sportsbook for Market Range Beyond Sports

Tenobet tops our sports lineup because it covers more things to bet on than any other book here — 35+ sports plus a genuine prediction market where you can take positions on crypto prices, politics, weather, even movie outcomes. If you get bored betting only moneylines, this is the antidote.

Betting Markets & Odds

Football (soccer) gets the deepest treatment, but North American staples are all present with live coverage that updates quickly.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac e-Transfer leads for Canadians, alongside cards and major cryptocurrencies. Deposits are near-instant; withdrawal speed depends on the rail — crypto fastest, Interac typically within a day once verified.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • 35+ sports plus a unique prediction market
  • Dedicated 300% sports welcome package
  • Low 25x wagering on the slots package
  • Strong live-betting interface

Bet at Tenobet
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

Tonybet – The Best Sportsbook for NHL Prop Depth

Tonybet is the hockey bettor's book in this lineup. Its NHL coverage is its most comprehensive market — hundreds of bets per game, with even more during the Stanley Cup Playoffs — and it leans into Canadian tastes with CFL, curling and lacrosse lines most offshore books skip.

Betting Markets & Odds

Odds on single-game hockey, basketball and football wagers test better than average, and the bet builder makes same-game combos simple.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac e-Transfer, cards and a wide banking menu. Deposits from C$20; withdrawals clear fastest on the method you deposited with.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Best NHL prop depth here, with playoff-season extras
  • CFL, curling and lacrosse markets
  • True CAD sports free bet with a modest 5x turnover
  • Better-than-average single-game odds
  • Stable native mobile apps

Cons

  • No live streaming for Canadian users
  • Free bet must be used on a 3+ leg parlay, and crypto deposits don't qualify

Bet at Tonybet
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

MyStake – The Best Sportsbook for Variety: 35+ Sports, Esports & Mini Games

MyStake is the everything platform: 35+ sports, a 6,000-game casino, instant mini games and a proper esports section, all behind one account. For bettors who bounce between a Leafs moneyline, a crash game and a CS2 match in the same evening, nothing else here matches it.

Betting Markets & Odds

Football carries up to 400 markets on major fixtures, and depth holds up well across North American leagues.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac for Canadians plus cards and an unusually broad crypto menu. Deposits are instant; crypto cash-outs are the quick route.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Huge breadth: 35+ sports, esports, 6,000+ casino titles
  • Mini games with transparent 95–98% RTPs
  • Fast, feature-dense platform

Cons

  • Welcome offer denominated in EUR, not CAD
  • Esports feels like a side product next to the main sportsbook

Bet at MyStake
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

Donbet – The Best Sportsbook for Crypto-Boosted Welcome Value

Donbet's pitch is simple: deposit with crypto and your welcome bonus jumps from 150% to 170% with double the free spins. It's the only book in our lineup that structurally rewards crypto users on the way in, and its market depth — close to 500 options on big fixtures — backs it up.

Betting Markets & Odds

Over 30 sports, with football the flagship and solid coverage of the North American majors.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac, cards and the main cryptocurrencies. Crypto is the fast lane for both directions.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Crypto deposits unlock a bigger welcome (170% vs 150%)
  • 25 no-deposit free spins with THRILL25
  • Deep per-event market counts

Cons

  • Mixed user feedback on withdrawal speed — verify early and withdraw in modest chunks
  • Football-first layout buries some NHL markets a click deeper

Bet at Donbet
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

Tooniebet – The Best Sportsbook for Low Wagering: 6x on a Canadian-Built Book

Named after the two-dollar coin, Tooniebet is the most Canadian book on this list — and it pairs that identity with the lowest bonus wagering here: just 6x on deposit plus bonus. Most books bury their sports offers under 30x or more; Tooniebet's is actually clearable.

Betting Markets & Odds

The live platform is the standout — fast, smooth, and it doesn't lag when odds move.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac and PayPal are the quick rails; other methods can take up to three business days. Deposits from C$30.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Lowest sports wagering in our lineup (6x)
  • Excellent live-betting speed and stats tools
  • Canadian branding with hockey-first coverage, and an Ontario-regulated arm (AGCO-licensed since March 2024)

Cons

  • Smaller C$150 bonus ceiling than the package books
  • Qualifying-odds floor (2.00 singles) rules out short favourites

Bet at Tooniebet
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

Goldenbet – The Best Sportsbook for Market Breadth & Racing

Goldenbet wins on sheer scale: around 140 sport types, tens of thousands of live events, and — rare for an offshore book serving Canada — proper horse and greyhound racing. If the bet you want exists anywhere, it probably exists here.

Betting Markets & Odds

Live events average 200+ betting options each, and market counts routinely beat competing books.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac, cards and crypto. Deposits from C$20; crypto clears fastest on the way out.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • ~140 sports and market counts few books match
  • Horse and greyhound racing included
  • Two welcome structures — spread (3×C$500) or front-loaded (300% with VIPG)

Cons

  • 35x wagering on the welcome is firmly casino-grade
  • Interface density can overwhelm casual bettors

Bet at Goldenbet
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

Freshbet – The Best Sportsbook for Fast Crypto Payouts & Micro Markets

Freshbet (Curaçao-licensed, running since 2020) is built for bettors who hate waiting: withdrawals typically process in 2–3 hours, and its in-play menu includes micro-interval bets — a corner in the first 5 minutes, a goal in the first 10 — that most books don't price at all.

Betting Markets & Odds

45+ sports and 4,000+ markets, with a competitive ~5% average margin.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac, cards, vouchers and eight cryptocurrencies (BTC, ETH, LTC, USDT, XRP, DASH, XMR, BCH). Crypto withdrawals land in hours, with no operator fees.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Withdrawals typically processed in 2–3 hours
  • Micro-interval live markets nobody else here offers
  • Competitive ~5% betting margin
  • No-deposit free spins available

Cons

  • Best welcome value is a separate opt-in offer
  • Racing coverage thin compared to Goldenbet

Bet at Freshbet
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

Kinbet – The Best Sportsbook for the Biggest Welcome Package

Kinbet carries the largest welcome package in our sports lineup — 250% up to C$4,500 plus 350 free spins (and a Bonus Crab mini-game) across four deposits. It's a casino-sportsbook hybrid where one registration covers everything, with CAD supported natively alongside crypto.

Betting Markets & Odds

A detailed sportsbook with dynamic live pricing and real-time odds updates.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

CAD accounts plus Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, Litecoin and Dogecoin. Interac for bank-rail deposits; crypto for the fastest cash-outs. 24/7 live chat if anything sticks.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Biggest package here: up to C$4,500 + 350 FS
  • Native CAD plus five cryptos
  • Sportsbook and casino on one account with cash-out

Cons

  • 35–40x wagering means the headline number is hard to fully clear
  • Newer brand without a long payout track record

Bet at Kinbet
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

Qbet – The Best Sportsbook for a Low-Risk C$10 Start

Qbet is the cheapest seat at the table: a C$10 minimum deposit gets you onto a book covering 312 leagues across 38 sports, with live streaming on selected events — something most books in this lineup don't offer at all.

Betting Markets & Odds

League coverage runs deep: 189 soccer leagues, 51 basketball, 36 hockey.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac, cards and crypto, with high withdrawal limits and quick processing on verified accounts.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • C$10 minimum deposit — lowest here
  • True sports welcome bonus up to C$200
  • Live streaming on selected events
  • 312 leagues across 38 sports
  • High withdrawal limits

Cons

  • No dedicated mobile app (browser only)

Bet at Qbet
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

30Bet – The Best Sportsbook for Bet Builder & Sub-Hour Crypto Cash-Outs

30Bet is a sportsbook-first platform with the tools sharp recreational bettors actually use: a proper bet builder, cash-out on open wagers, and crypto withdrawals that clear in under an hour. The attached casino (3,200+ titles) runs a loss-cashback system on top.

Betting Markets & Odds

20+ sports with 900+ active football markets at peak, plus esports and combat sports.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac and crypto are the dependable rails — card support is thin, so plan on e-Transfer or crypto. Crypto withdrawals routinely clear in under an hour.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Crypto payouts in under an hour
  • Bet builder + cash-out
  • 30 no-deposit spins on signup
  • Casino loss-cashback system

Cons

  • Weak card support — Interac or crypto only, realistically
  • Few ongoing sports-specific promos

Bet at 30Bet
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

Rabona – The Best Sportsbook for Parlay Players: Up to 100% Combo Boost

Rabona is built for the parlay crowd. Its Accumulator Boost adds 3% profit on winning 3-leg combos, scaling all the way to a 100% boost at 21+ legs — and its pre-match football margin of about 4.3% is genuinely low for an offshore book.

Betting Markets & Odds

40+ sports with strong market variety and some of the better base odds in this lineup.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac, cards and crypto (with separate USDT-denominated welcome offers for crypto depositors). Standard verified payouts clear within a day or two.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Accumulator boost up to 100% — best parlay deal here
  • Low ~4.3% football margin
  • Bet builder and enhanced odds

Cons

  • Sports welcome capped at a modest C$150
  • Key bonus terms only visible after logging in

Bet at Rabona
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

BetOnline – The Best Sportsbook for Reduced-Juice NHL Lines

BetOnline has been paying bettors since 2001, and hockey is its specialty: independent 2026 testing recorded reduced-juice NHL pricing (around -106 moneylines and -108 totals versus the standard -110) and 35 player-points prop markets per game. Over a season, that pricing gap is real money.

Betting Markets & Odds

Early lines post before most competitors, and the live platform accepted the most in-play bets per hour in comparative testing.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac, cards and a broad crypto menu; crypto withdrawals typically clear in under an hour, fiat rails take longer.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Reduced juice on NHL lines (~-106/-108 in testing)
  • 25-year payout track record
  • Early line posting and deep props
  • Sub-hour crypto withdrawals

Cons

  • C$25 minimum deposit, highest in this lineup
  • Welcome offer is casino-oriented; sports promos run separately

Bet at BetOnline
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

Ozoon – The Best Sportsbook for Bodog Pedigree Under a New Name

Ozoon is Bodog Canada reborn: on 17 February 2026 the near-30-year-old brand migrated every Canadian account, balance and bet history to the new name. You get the same Vegas-style platform — sportsbook, casino, horse racing and an active poker network — run by Rocketship Ventures under a Tobique Gaming Commission licence (a First Nations regulator in New Brunswick, not a provincial one).

Betting Markets & Odds

Competitive odds on the leagues Canadians actually bet, with modern builder tools.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac e-Transfer and crypto (Bitcoin the smoothest), carried over from Bodog's long-standing CA banking setup.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Decades of Bodog operating history behind a fresh brand
  • Low 12x wagering on the sports welcome bonus
  • Same-game parlays, bet builder, racing and poker in one account
  • Seamless account migration for former Bodog users

Cons

  • Not available in Quebec, Nova Scotia or Manitoba
  • Licence (Tobique) is new and unproven compared to Curaçao's framework

Bet at Ozoon
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

Jokersino – The Best Sportsbook for Casino-Sports Crossover Play

Jokersino (launched 2023, Curaçao-licensed) is for players who treat the sportsbook and the slot lobby as one session. The switch between a Canadiens moneyline and a live-dealer table is seamless, and banking covers Interac, cards and crypto alike.

Betting Markets & Odds

Full-service coverage of the North American majors with live betting and props.

Bonuses & Promotions

Payment Methods

Interac, Visa, Mastercard and leading cryptocurrencies.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Genuine one-account casino/sports crossover
  • Interac plus broad crypto support
  • Big headline bonus percentage (400%)

Cons

  • Mixed third-party trust ratings — keep balances modest and verify early

Bet at Jokersino
19+ (18+ AB/MB/QC). Play responsibly.

How we rate Canadian sportsbooks

We open real accounts, fund them with Canadian dollars, place bets across the season and cash out — so our rankings reflect the odds, settlement and payout you'll actually get. Five factors decide the order above:

Is sports betting legal in Canada?

Yes. The turning point was Bill C-218, the Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act, which received royal assent in 2021 and legalised single-game sports betting across Canada. Before that, Canadians were limited to parlay-only tickets through provincial lotteries — you had to combine several games and get them all right.

As with casinos, implementation is left to each province: Ontario runs an open, regulated market, while others offer betting through their crown lottery corporations. Alongside those provincial options, most Canadians bet at offshore sportsbooks — internationally licensed books with pan-Canada reach that take Canadian dollars and Interac. Betting at one is not a criminal act for the player. That's the lineup we rank here.

Are offshore sportsbooks legal in Canada?

The honest answer: they operate in a legal grey zone that lands on the player's side. Canadian law regulates offering gambling, not placing a bet — no province has a law criminalizing the act of betting at an internationally licensed book, and no Canadian has been prosecuted for it. The operators in our lineup hold licences from Curaçao, Anjouan, Kahnawake (a Mohawk Nation regulator physically in Quebec, not a provincial body) or Tobique (a First Nations regulator in New Brunswick).

The real trade-off isn't legal risk — it's recourse. Bet at an iGaming Ontario book and a dispute can be escalated to the AGCO; bet offshore and your protection is the operator's licence and track record. That's exactly why payout history is our heaviest-weighted ranking factor, and why we delist books that stop paying.

Where can you bet on sports in Canada, province by province

Single-game betting is legal nationwide — what changes by province is which regulated options exist alongside the offshore books above, which work the same everywhere in Canada.

Ontario

The widest choice in the country: dozens of iGaming Ontario-licensed sportsbooks (including the big U.S. brands), the OLG's PROLINE+ online and PROLINE at lottery retailers, plus retail sportsbooks at casinos. Age 19+. Do you have to be in Ontario to use Ontario sportsbooks? Yes — regulated apps geolocate you and only accept bets placed physically inside the province. What makes Ontario different? It was the first open market (April 2022), so operators compete on odds and product; the flip side is that Ontario's inducement rules bar them from advertising bonuses publicly.

Alberta

Canada's second open market, live since mid-2026 under the Alberta iGaming Corporation and AGLC, alongside the crown Play Alberta platform. Age 18+. Like Ontario, regulated apps work only inside the province, and AGLC inducement rules keep bonus advertising off public pages. In person, Alberta casinos and racetracks offer betting counters and kiosks, and Sport Select is sold at lottery retailers.

British Columbia

PlayNow Sports (BCLC) is the regulated option, with Sport Select at retail. Age 19+. No private licensing — offshore books are the alternative most British Columbians use for broader markets.

Manitoba

PlayNow operates here too under Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries. Age 18+ — one of the three youngest-age provinces.

Saskatchewan

PlayNow.com/sk launched with SIGA and Sask Lotteries; Sport Select at retail. Age 19+.

Quebec

Loto-Québec's Mise-o-jeu (online and at retailers) is the only provincially regulated book. Age 18+. Quebec has no plans for an open market, which is why offshore books remain the practical choice for serious bettors.

Atlantic Canada

New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland & Labrador bet through Atlantic Lottery's Pro-Line, online and at retail. Age 19+ in all four.

Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut

No local online sportsbook — the territories are covered by WCLC's Sport Select at retail only, so offshore books are the de facto online option. Age 19+.

Can you use any sportsbook app in Canada?

No — and this is the most misunderstood thing in Canadian betting. Regulated apps are province-locked: an iGaming Ontario app geolocates you and refuses bets placed outside Ontario; the same applies to Alberta's licensed apps, PlayNow and Mise-o-jeu in their home provinces. Using a VPN to fake your location breaches the operator's terms and can void winnings at withdrawal.

Offshore sportsbooks work differently: they're browser-based (no app-store listing, because store rules restrict real-money gambling apps), accept players from every province and territory, and don't geolocate within Canada. Add the site to your phone's home screen and it behaves like an app — same account everywhere from St. John's to Whitehorse.

Who can bet on sports in Canada?

Anyone of legal age in their province: 18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec; 19+ everywhere else, including Ontario, BC and all of Atlantic Canada. You don't need to be a citizen or permanent resident — visitors and newcomers can bet at the same age thresholds. Regulated books verify age at signup; the offshore books we rank verify it at KYC before your first withdrawal. Underage gambling is an offence for the operator in every province, which is why every legitimate site checks.

Betting on hockey — NHL, Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Stanley Cup

Hockey is the sport Canada bets on most, and it's where the sportsbooks we rank compete hardest. Every book above carries deep NHL markets from puck drop in October through the Stanley Cup Final:

Whether you follow the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Oilers, Flames, Jets, Senators or Canucks, expect full markets on every game plus live in-play betting through the third period.

Other Canadian sports

Hockey leads, but the books we rank cover every league Canadians follow:

SportLeagueCanadian teams to watch
FootballCFLArgonauts, Blue Bombers, Stampeders and the Grey Cup
BaseballMLBToronto Blue Jays
BasketballNBAToronto Raptors
SoccerMLSToronto FC, CF Montréal, Vancouver Whitecaps

You'll also find full markets on the NFL, UFC, tennis, golf and the major soccer leagues, plus futures and live betting across all of them.

Can you bet on U.S. sports and Canadian teams?

Both, everywhere. Every book we rank carries full NFL, NBA, MLB and NCAA markets — U.S. sports make up the bulk of most Canadian bettors' volume outside hockey season. And yes, you can bet on Canadian teams without restriction: the Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Oilers, Raptors, Blue Jays and every CFL club are standard markets, not exceptions. There's no rule anywhere in Canada against backing your home team.

Can you bet on horse racing in Canada?

Yes — and it's actually Canada's oldest legal betting vertical, regulated federally by the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency rather than the provinces. Licensed pari-mutuel betting runs at tracks like Woodbine and through legal online wagering platforms nationwide. Several offshore books in our lineup carry racing too — Ozoon inherits Bodog's full racebook with fixed-odds and pari-mutuel style pricing on North American and international tracks.

How betting odds work

Canadian books quote odds in two formats — switchable in settings at every site we rank:

Two concepts worth knowing: implied probability (decimal odds of 2.00 imply a 50% chance — if you think the true chance is higher, the bet has value) and the vig, the bookmaker's margin baked into every line. A fair coin-flip would pay 2.00 each way; books offer ~1.91, and that gap is their edge. Lower-margin books — we flag them in the reviews — pay you more on identical bets.

The main types of sports bet

Moneyline

The simplest bet: pick who wins. In low-scoring hockey it's the staple market — Canadiens at +120 pays C$120 profit on a C$100 stake if Montreal wins in any fashion.

Point spread / puck line

A handicap evens the matchup: the favourite must win by more than the spread. Hockey's version is the puck line, almost always ±1.5 goals — the favourite at -1.5 must win by two.

Totals (over/under)

Bet on the combined score rather than the winner — over or under a line like 6.5 goals. Period-by-period totals are standard in NHL markets.

Parlays

Chain several picks into one ticket; every leg must win, and odds multiply. Higher payouts, much lower hit rate — which is precisely why books promote them. Rabona's accumulator boost (up to 100% extra on long combos) is the lineup's best parlay value.

Same-game parlays

Combine correlated bets within one game — Leafs win + Matthews scores + over 6 goals. Fun, but priced with a bigger margin than the separate bets; treat them as entertainment tickets.

Player props

Bets on an individual's line: shots on goal, points, assists, saves. Tonybet carries the deepest NHL prop menu in our lineup, with hundreds of options per game.

Futures

Season-long outcomes: Stanley Cup winner, division champions, Hart Trophy. Priced generously early, but your stake is locked until the market settles.

Live (in-play) betting

Odds that update as the game runs — covered in depth in the live betting section below.

Sportsbook bonuses & free bets

Most Canadian sportsbooks welcome new bettors with a deposit match or a free bet. As with casino offers, the terms matter more than the number.

Example offer
Bet C$50, get C$50 in free bets
Rollover
1x at odds of -200 or longer (common on free bets)
Free-bet quirk
You keep the winnings, not the stake — a winning C$50 free bet at even odds returns C$50, not C$100
Watch for
Minimum odds, market restrictions and short expiry windows

A lower rollover and looser odds restrictions make a free bet far more usable than a big headline with strings attached.

Do sports betting promos work the same across Canada?

No — and the difference surprises people. In Ontario and Alberta, regulated operators are barred from advertising bonuses publicly (inducement rules); you only see their offers after you've registered. In the rest of Canada there's no open market at all, so crown platforms offer little promotional value. The offshore books ranked here are the exception: their welcome offers are public, identical in every province, and listed in our table with the wagering terms spelled out. That's a genuine reason Canadians outside Ontario shop offshore — but judge every offer by its rollover, not its headline.

Payment methods

Interac e-Transfer is the go-to for Canadian bettors — instant deposits, bank-to-bank withdrawals, and no card details shared with the book. It's the method we weight most heavily when rating a sportsbook's cashier. Our Interac guide covers supported banks, minimums, fees and real payout times, and it applies to sportsbooks the same way it does to casinos.

Crypto (Bitcoin, USDT) is the fastest route for payouts, usually under an hour, while cards and bank transfers are slower at up to five business days.

Live & in-play betting

Live betting is where the sportsbooks we rank earn their keep. Odds update in real time as a game unfolds, so you can back a comeback, hedge a pre-game bet, or grab a price the moment momentum shifts. Every book above offers in-play markets on the NHL, NBA, MLB and major soccer, and the best pair it with a live stream or a fast-updating match tracker.

Two things separate a good live product from a poor one: speed (how quickly odds refresh and bets settle) and bet acceptance (how often your wager is accepted at the shown price rather than sent to a delay). We test both during live games.

How to start betting on sports in Canada

1. Check your province

Confirm your legal age (18+ in AB/MB/QC, 19+ elsewhere) and know your local options — the province-by-province section above covers every region.

2. Pick a sportsbook

Choose for what you bet: NHL props (Tonybet), parlays (Rabona), low rollover (Tooniebet at 6x), or breadth (MyStake). The ranked table weighs all of it.

3. Create an account

Register with details exactly matching your ID, then complete verification immediately — it's a one-time check and doing it now protects your first withdrawal from delay.

4. Confirm your location rules

Offshore books accept you Canada-wide. If you also use a regulated Ontario or Alberta app, remember it only works physically inside that province.

5. Deposit funds

Interac e-Transfer is the standard first deposit — near-instant, bank-to-bank, from C$10–30 minimums. Note any welcome-offer minimum before funding.

6. Place your first bet

Start with moneylines on a league you know, at stakes you'd spend on any night out. Track your bets honestly from day one — the habit separates recreational bettors who stay recreational from those who don't.

How to spot a safe betting site

Three checks before you deposit anywhere — including sites we haven't reviewed:

The safest place to bet is wherever all three checks pass and the dispute path is real: in Ontario/Alberta that's the provincial regulator; offshore it's the licensing body plus the operator's reputation — which is why we weight payout history above everything else.

Are betting winnings taxed in Canada?

No — sports betting winnings are tax-free for recreational bettors in Canada. The Canada Revenue Agency does not treat them as income, so whatever you win on the Leafs or the Blue Jays is yours to keep, with nothing to declare.

The only exception is the rare full-time professional who bets as a business, assessed case by case. For everyone betting for fun, your winnings are entirely tax-free.

Responsible gambling resources in Canada

Betting should cost what entertainment costs. Set a deposit limit before the season starts, never chase a losing night, and treat every win as a bonus. All the books we rank offer deposit limits, cool-offs and self-exclusion in account settings — our self-exclusion guide explains how to use them. If it stops being fun, free confidential help exists across the country:

Frequently asked questions

Is sports betting legal in Canada?

Yes. Sports betting is legal across Canada, and since 2021 that includes single-game wagers. Each province decides how it's offered locally, but betting at an offshore sportsbook is not a criminal offence for the player anywhere in the country.

Is single-game betting legal in Canada?

Yes. Bill C-218 (the Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act) legalised single-game betting nationally in 2021. Before that, Canadians could only bet on parlays of multiple games through provincial lotteries; now you can back a single NHL or NBA game outright.

Can I bet on the NHL in Canada?

Yes — hockey is the most-bet sport in Canada, and every sportsbook we rank offers deep NHL markets: moneyline, puck line, totals, player props, futures on the Stanley Cup, and live in-play betting on the Maple Leafs, Canadiens and every other club.

Are betting winnings taxed in Canada?

No. For recreational bettors, sports betting winnings are tax-free — the Canada Revenue Agency does not treat them as income. Only a small number of full-time professional bettors, who wager as a business, are assessed differently.

Can I use Interac at a sportsbook?

Yes. Interac e-Transfer is widely supported at the sportsbooks we rank — deposits are near-instant and withdrawals usually clear within 12–24 hours. See our Interac guide for banks, minimums and payout times.

What's the best sportsbook in Canada?

The best book depends on what you bet: sharp NHL pricing, live betting, CFL and MLS depth, or the biggest free-bet offer. Our ranked list at the top of this page weighs odds, markets, payouts and bonuses so you can pick the right fit.

Do offshore sportsbooks accept Canadians?

Yes. The books in our lineup are licensed offshore and openly accept Canadian bettors across every province, take Canadian dollars, support Interac, and cover all the leagues Canadians follow. They are not licensed by a Canadian provincial regulator.

Is online sports betting safe?

The sportsbooks we rank hold a verifiable licence, use SSL encryption and run KYC checks before payout. As with any offshore site you don't get provincial dispute recourse, so we only list books with a proven record of settling bets and paying out on time.

Can I use DraftKings or FanDuel in Canada?

Only inside a regulated province. Both operate under iGaming Ontario licences and have entered Alberta's new market — but their apps geolocate and refuse bets placed anywhere else in Canada. In BC, Quebec, the Prairies, Atlantic Canada and the territories they simply don't work, which is why bettors there use the crown platform or the offshore books ranked here.

What is the legal sports betting age in Canada?

18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec; 19+ in every other province and territory, including Ontario and BC. The threshold follows the province you're betting from, not where the sportsbook is based.

Can I bet while travelling within Canada?

With an offshore book, yes — your account works identically in every province and territory. With a regulated app, no: an Ontario-licensed app stops accepting bets the moment you leave Ontario, and the same applies to Alberta apps, PlayNow and Mise-o-jeu in their home provinces.

Are PROLINE, PlayNow, Play Alberta and Mise-o-jeu legal?

Yes — all four are government-run products: PROLINE/PROLINE+ (OLG, Ontario), PlayNow Sports (BCLC — BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan), Play Alberta (AGLC) and Mise-o-jeu (Loto-Québec). They're the most protected places to bet, though their odds and market depth generally trail competitive books.

How many sportsbook accounts can I have?

One per sportsbook — duplicate accounts breach terms and are the most common reason winnings get voided. But you can hold accounts at as many different books as you like, and line-shopping across two or three is the single easiest edge in sports betting.

Who regulates online sports betting in Canada?

It's provincial: iGaming Ontario/AGCO in Ontario, the Alberta iGaming Corporation/AGLC in Alberta, and crown lottery corporations elsewhere (BCLC, Loto-Québec, Atlantic Lottery, WCLC). Horse racing is federal, under the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency. Offshore books are regulated by their licensing jurisdiction — Curaçao, Anjouan, Kahnawake or Tobique in our lineup.

What happens if an offshore sportsbook doesn't pay me?

Your escalation path is: support ticket with the withdrawal reference and a written release date; then a formal complaint to the operator's licensing regulator (each publishes a player-complaint channel); and documentation of everything. There's no provincial ombudsman for offshore sites — which is exactly why we only rank books with a clean payout record and delist on evidence of stalling.
